Obtaining Your Driving License A1
A driver’s licence is a vital document that allows you to drive. You must enroll in a driving school and be able to pass both physical and written exams.
A1 is the first class of driving licence that allows you to drive a motor scooter with 125cc and 11 kW. If you are older than 24 years old, you can obtain a full A category licence.
Training
The first step of your motorcycle journey is to obtain your driver’s license A1. You must complete a basic 17-hour course before sitting for your theory or a practical driving test. You can complete the course at a driver’s academy, ongoing driver training center or with private trainers.
In the course you will be taught the rules of driving and how to operate a motorcycle safely. You will be able to operate your motorcycle and improve your handling skills prior to taking the test. After passing the theory test, you’ll have to pass the practical A1 motorcycle test, which will be administered by a certified tester. The A1 motorcycle test is divided into two parts: a theory test and practical test. Both tests are taken on the same day.
The theory test comprises 20 multiple-choice tests with only two incorrect answers allowed for a passing score. The theory test is a computer-based test that is administered by the appropriate testing centre. You can prepare for the test by reading the Highway Code. You should also practice answering sample questions prior to taking the actual test.
After passing the test in theory, you can then book your practical A1 test. You can then begin preparing for the practical test by gaining familiarity with the highway code and also by practicing riding maneuvers such as hill starts and Prawo Jazdy C+E lane changes. The practical test is divided into Module 1 and Module 2.
Module 1 is one of the modules that concentrates on off road maneuvers. You will be assessed on your ability to perform controlled U-turns as well as an emergency stop. You will be asked to perform a number of controlled road maneuvers such as a figure eight and an accelerated ride. Then, you’ll need to demonstrate good observation skills and anticipate road dangers.
After passing your A1 driving test, you will be eligible to be upgraded to A2 driving category. This is only possible once you have held your A1 driving licence for at least two years.
Licensing requirements
If you’re a student you may need to take instruction at a recognized driving school in order to be able to get a driving license in category A1.
